He Opened the Scriptures
Let Jesus reveal Himself in every page of the Word.

"And they said to one another, 'Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"
Dear Friend,
Have you ever experienced that unmistakable burning in your heart? That sacred stirring that comes when the Word of God suddenly leaps from black ink on paper into living flame within your spirit? The disciples on the Emmaus road walked seven miles alongside the risen Christ without recognizing Him—until He began to unfold the Scriptures. In that moment, something extraordinary happened: the written Word and the Living Word converged, and their hearts were set ablaze.
Too often we approach Scripture as merely distant stories, and information to be mastered rather than transformation to be experienced.
We read chapters and verses, we highlight and underline, yet we miss the Author Himself walking alongside us through each page. The miracle of Emmaus wasn't just that Jesus appeared, but that He revealed how all Scripture points to Him.
"Beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself" (Luke 24:27).
The Bible isn't ultimately about principles, promises, or prescriptions—it's about a Person - Jesus Christ. |
What would change if you approached your Bible reading tomorrow not as a task to complete but as a divine appointment? The same Jesus who opened the Scriptures on that dusty road stands ready to walk with you through every passage, every prophecy, every psalm.
When we invite the Holy Spirit to be our guide, even familiar verses become fresh revelations. As A.W. Tozer wisely noted, "The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God."
May your Bible reading never be the same.
May your heart burn within you as you recognize Jesus in every story, in every command, in every promise.
For when Christ opens the Scriptures, He also opens our eyes to see Him more clearly and our hearts to love Him more deeply.
Reflective Prompt: When was the last time your heart "burned within you" while reading Scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to you in a fresh way as you open the Word today. Choose a familiar passage and ask, "Lord, show me Yourself in these words."
From a place of abiding,
